Visit to Ballymaloe
The Lumleys team have recently returned from Ireland after visiting Ballymaloe cookery school for the first time. We were shown around the school ; including the gardens, the animals and the cooks accommodation. A normal day as a student at Ballymaloe consists of an early rise to feed the Chickens or setting up the four kitchens ready for the days work. The morning is spent preparing lunch for all the students , staff and guests along with cooking other produce for the Farm Shop or the Farmers Market. In the afternoon the student watch a demonstration for many recipes , of which they will be cooking the following day. The demonstration can hold up to 70 people and there are two large television screen and a large mirror over the chef, to ensure the students see all in detail.
We met with over thirty students all of which were keen to start cooking and do get on with their first job . We were thoroughly impressed with the set up and there is no doubt that all the students will be confident and accomplished cooks. Lumleys will now be visiting Ballymaloe for every 12 week course of which there are three per year.
