Food of Course Cookery School in Somerset

Lumleys recently visited the Food of Course Cookery School in Somerset. From the moment you arrive, you get a sense that the Food of Course Cookery School is a very professionally run establishment. Everything is buzzing, with great enthusiasm for the tasks being done emanating from both staff and students.

Chatting over a delicious lunch with the students, it was clear that they had either arrived with clear goals for their futures, or had developed them over the course. The ongoing discussions with other member of the group, and with Lou Hutton who runs the school, had fired them up not only to cook, but to realise what doors that could open in the outside world.

It was also interesting to see a focus on much more than just the kitchen based aspect of cooking that is the focus of many schools. Budgets, sourcing the best ingredients, recognising quality and presentation were hot topics. The whole experience of good food, and the confidence to deliver it was seen as important, right down to washing up, and leaving an immaculate kitchen at the end of the day.

As a source of confidence, skills and the right attitude to everything around food, we could not fault it. Over the past few months it has been students who have been taught by Lou Hutton who have gone on to be successfully placed in our jobs. They have received much praise and are a credit to the school and the quality of the teaching.
